| dc.description.abstract | This series contains an index useful chiefly as a key to the series "Registers of the General Files, July 1897 - August 1926" General Records of the Department of the Navy (ARC Identifier 2254330) since the main body of information concerning a given subject is usually filed under a single number. For a great many subjects no separate number was assigned in the general file, and for these the index enables a searcher to locate materials scattered under several numbers.
