Abstract: Dr. James A. Marsh, Jr. is a Professor Emeritus of Marine Biology at the University of Guam and the founding director of the Water Resources Research Center, now known as the Water and Environmental Research Institute, or WERI. He is one of five original faculty members recognized for their efforts in successfully establishing and maintaining UOG’s first and only Marine Laboratory. Despite the budget crises, staffing shortages, and periods of instability during his early days at the university, Dr. Marsh reflects on fond memories with his students and the lasting contributions of his services. He retired in 1988 but continues to encourage students to achieve academic excellence in Biology and Environmental Science through his James A. Marsh, Jr. scholarship.
